Threat intelligence

Attack campaigns reach your sector, suppliers or software before your team hears about them.

What it is

Timely, relevant information about attackers and what they are doing: which vulnerabilities are being exploited, which groups target your industry, and the indicators (IP addresses, domains, file hashes) to block and hunt for. Good intelligence is filtered to what matters to you and delivered into the tools that act on it, not as a pile of reports.

How to value it

Knowing that a flaw in your VPN is being exploited this week, or that a ransomware group has started targeting your sector, changes what you patch first and what you watch for. Intelligence shortens the time between an attack appearing anywhere and your defences being ready for it, and it gives the board context for risk decisions. The common failure is buying feeds nobody acts on, so judge it by the decisions it changes.

Questions to ask a vendor

  1. 1Where does the intelligence come from: your own collection and sensors, partners or open sources? How is it verified?
  2. 2Can it be filtered to our sector, technology, suppliers and brand?
  3. 3How does it reach our SIEM, EDR and firewalls, and how are outdated indicators retired?
  4. 4Can you show cases where your intelligence came before the public advisory?

How we list vendors

  • A product is listed because it provides the control. Nobody pays to be listed, and on story pages the examples rotate, so no vendor is always first.
  • Vendor pages show both the vendor's own research and the incidents involving its products, from our own coverage. We do not leave either out.
  • Our summaries are written by us, based on the vendors' own pages. Text in quotation marks or marked "in their own words" is the vendor's own, quoted from its website.
  • Logos, product names and quoted text belong to the vendors and are shown to identify them.
  • Something wrong? Use "Suggest a correction" on the vendor's page. A product we should look at? Email support@threatnoir.com.
