Vulnerability Management

Vulnerability scanning and prioritisation

You know which systems are vulnerable, and which ones to fix first.

Addresses 950 stories in our coverage in the last 90 days 5 products that provide it

What it is

Continuous scanning of servers, endpoints, cloud and applications for known vulnerabilities, ranked by whether they are exploited in the wild and how exposed each system is.

How to value it

Thousands of vulnerabilities are published every month, but only a small share are ever exploited. Prioritising by real exploitation, for example CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list, puts scarce patching time on the flaws attackers actually use, and gives management a clear picture of exposure.

Questions to ask a vendor

  1. 1Does it prioritise by active exploitation and exposure, not only by CVSS score?
  2. 2Does it cover cloud, containers and network appliances as well as servers?
  3. 3Can it track time to fix per team against our targets?
  4. 4How does it find assets we did not know we had?

For your risk register

Risk
Known, exploited vulnerabilities stay open on exposed systems.
Control
Continuous scanning with exploitation-based priorities and fix deadlines.
Owner
Vulnerability management lead.
Measure
Time to fix known-exploited vulnerabilities.

A starting point: set the owner and measure to fit your organisation.

Products that provide it

Listed alphabetically by vendor. A listing is not a recommendation: use the questions above to compare them, or tick up to 3 to see them side by side.

Axonius

Axonius Exposures

Brings findings from different scanners together with asset and business context, to show what matters most and track fixes to the end.

Rapid7

Rapid7 Exposure Command (InsightVM)

Vulnerability scanning and risk-based prioritisation; InsightVM is now part of Exposure Command, alongside attack surface and cloud risk.

How we list vendors

  • A product is listed because it provides the control. Nobody pays to be listed, and on story pages the examples rotate, so no vendor is always first.
  • Vendor pages show both the vendor's own research and the incidents involving its products, from our own coverage. We do not leave either out.
  • Our summaries are written by us, based on the vendors' own pages. Text in quotation marks or marked "in their own words" is the vendor's own, quoted from its website.
  • Logos, product names and quoted text belong to the vendors and are shown to identify them.
  • Something wrong? Use "Suggest a correction" on the vendor's page. A product we should look at? Email support@threatnoir.com.
